Very few individuals canvas the pages of Scripture as does Moses. This child, born of a Levite, beautiful and blessed of God, became the deliverer of Israel as an adult (Exodus 2:1-2, NKJV). Following his sin in the killing of an Egyptian, Moses fled to the valley where he found Midian and became a stranger in a foreign land (Exodus 2:21-22). Eventually, God called this meek and humble man to execute judgment against the Egyptians. More significantly, to prove His hand towards all of mankind (Exodus 3:12). After this, and for forty years, Moses and Israel were led by the providence and mercy of God despite their rejection and ungrateful nature towards Him. God allows us to see their rebellion and how He remembers their transgressions, the very measure of their souls. The psalmist stated, “We have sinned with our fathers, We have committed iniquity, We have done wickedly. Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your wonders; They did not remember the multitude of Your mercies, But rebelled by the sea—the Red Sea” Psalm 106:6-7. The resolute nature of God is repeatedly witnessed in His steadfast actions. Regardless of sin, God proved Himself worthy of grace, mercy, and honor among all nations. “Nevertheless He regarded their affliction, When He heard their cry; And for their sake He remembered His covenant, And relented according to the multitude of His mercies. He also made them to be pitied By all those who carried them away captive” (Psalm 106:44-46). Therefore, when we see Moses ready to depart from his campaign as an emissary to the King, we see humility, leadership, and resilience as never before. Moses recounts God’s good pleasure and mercy towards all the houses of Israel, especially the Tribe of Joseph, which now encompassed a double portion of blessing in Ephraim and Manasseh (Deuteronomy 33:17). Moses, this great leader of the people, gave as a last message one of “precious things and the favor of Him who dwelt in the bush”. If this were your last message to the people you have been given responsibility for, what would it sound like? Would you remind the people to live by the authority in Heaven? Would you be inclined to encourage all to love as they have been loved? Would you commend everyone to their own decision in such matters? And finally, would you remind every man, woman, boy, and girl how God has treasured them above measure in the everyday blessing from Heaven? I pray that you would. God desires for us to be reminded every day so that we might choose Him and have no other gods before Him. Before you pass from this life to the next, be like Moses, and think upon these things, blessing God in the process.
