Ralph Waldo Emerson is given credit for stating, “If a man can write a better book, preach a better sermon or make a better mouse trap than his neighbors, though he builds his house in the woods, the world will make a beaten path to his door” (common lecture, 1871). Many have taken this statement and have built a vast semblance in pursuit of truth. For example, some state truth cannot be known. This implies several contested facts. One, is the God of Heaven real? (Acts 17:28). Two, Does He look out for our benefit? (1 Tim 2:4). Three, what meaning does this hold for us in reference to truth? (Psalm 25:5, 31:5). Therefore, truth can be known, but only if one is not striving to design their own “mousetrap”.
Those who “seek” higher truths, greater insights, and existential experiences are not familiar with the promises of God. The Scriptures teach us to seek the logic of the Bible (Jn 8:31-32). This reasoning comes from acknowledging our Heavenly Father did not leave His salvation to chance (1 Cor 15:1-4). Only those willing to receive the truth can and will benefit (Jn 6:60). Many of us will at some point in life try to design another system…a seemingly “better” one. But Brother Paul states a process like this is folly (Gal 1:6-10). That does not mean God will stand in our path and discourage us. Maybe this is what some desire: to test Him and see how close we move the spring before it snaps close! Probably not the best use of the time God gives us. We already hold the truth (Jn 8:36). Truth must be obeyed to benefit those who believe (Jn 3:16). Delaying will not change the plan and there will never be a better time than the present to obey (Acts 22:16).
In Christ,
