One of the most notable figures in the Old Testament was Moses. He was born to a Hebrew mother, and he grew up in the household of Pharaoh (Exodus 2:10, NKJV). Moses, being a “beautiful child”, was hidden from the wrath of man to become God’s minister of deliverance for the House of Israel. God stated, “Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt” (Exodus 3:10). Like many leaders throughout the coveted word of God, our Father in Heaven warned Moses of the trials that inherently come with those who undertake a leadership role with mankind. God describes His beloved as a “stiff-necked” people, unworthy of the love in which He was preferring them. Sound familiar?
How often have you noticed a lack of sincere, Biblical, and daring faith? Why daring, because God’s people should never be cowards nor concerned with all the things we believe that He cannot do but rather be blessed in the focus of what He does bring to pass for our benefit, even though we often stand convicted in being unworthy (Job 37:5). More importantly, have you ever noticed that your lack of faith, my lack of faith, portrays the Great God of Heaven as impotent? When Moses feared going before the Pharaoh, God gave him full confidence in a calculated victory. He gave Moses a sign from heaven in a “serpent’s staff” and a “leprous hand,” proving He is greater than ALL of Egypt (Exodus 4:1-7). Furthermore, God stated that if Pharaoh did not heed the first two signs, he would eventually bow down after the duration of His other miraculous works (Exodus 4:8). And he did, along with the entirety of Egypt, which God parted at the side of the Sea; there is no other God greater than He. The Scriptures state, “Thus Israel saw the great work which the Lord had done in Egypt; so the people feared the Lord, and believed the Lord and His servant Moses” Exodus 14:31).
It should seem strange that by the time of the wilderness encampment, God STILL needed to prove His lovingkindness to hardened hearts and an unfaithful generation…but He did, and STILL does today! (Numbers 14:11, Deuteronomy 1:32, 9:7-8, 22-23, Psalm 78:22, 32, 41-42). Thus, Moses, a meek and faithful servant, a mere man who favored the love of God over His own people (Numbers 12), comes to the aid of Israel in a prayer to the Almighty God of Heaven! He states, “let the power of my Lord be great, just as You have spoken” (Numbers 14:17b). Moses understood the nations that were surrounding Israel were watching him, the Hebrews, and their God. Have you EVER considered the MAGNITUDE of your relationship to God with the world? That is, you live in fervent faith, and He lives with you. IF you live in constant disrepair, you bring shame, dishonor, and reproach against the only God of this life, who can save! Those who claim to be children of God are to live their lives as “proof” of His eternal love, mercy, and grace for mankind (Deuteronomy 7:6-8). Moses remembered and understood what was at stake in forsaking this mission, so he prayed. He prayed righteously. Moses prayed fervently. He prayed justifiably for God not to destroy His people, but rather for God to intercede…AGAIN…for His people so that HE, the Alpha and the Omega, would not be ignored by the Earth, but remain the Judge of all mankind in stating he will, “by no means clears the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation” (Numbers 14:18b). Some assert one should not fear God. Others assert that God should be praised and loved. Is it possible these matters are the same and have you, like Moses, prayed for the Lord’s power to remain great, just as He has ALWAYS declared? I hope so, for all our sake. Think about these things, and God Bless,
